The Vintage Corvette Club

(Ed;s Collection circa early 1970s. Note hubcap on car on the left.)

Ed's Vintage Corvette Club experienced rapid growth from late 1968 until December 1975. The VCC was built around the idea of restoring early corvettes, mostly 53 to 55's, to concourse condition. Given the rapid development of the VCC, Ed set up a regional structure, so that members across the country could have local shows and judging events.

The VCC developed Judging Guidelines. While judging events did occur, as evidenced by the quarterly newsletters, it appears that the judging events did not really take a deep hold with the membership.

The VCC was really built around buying and selling cars and parts. Ed played a very active role in buying and selling - thus VCC really helped Ed pursue his hobby to the utmost. The VCC even published a checklist of what a prospective buyer should look for when considering a car.

The Blue Flame Special Magazine

The quarterly VCC Newsletter (The Blue Flame Special) was no doubt the main reason why most members belonged to the VCC. The typical newsletter featured:

1. An attractive color cover featuring a member car. Example

2. A cover story about the car on the cover. Example

3. News of Interest - including new parts, books, etc. Example

4. Regional News Update. Example

5. The Classifieds (probably why most people belonged to the VCC). Example

6. Reproduction Parts. Example

7. Pictures of Member Cars. Example

8. Reprints of various corvette owners manuals, repair guides, etc.

The Vintage Corvette Club and its quarterly magazine played a very important and early role in the development of the Corvette collector/restorer hobby. Recognizing this, Ed Thiebaud and the Vintage Corvette Club have very graciously allowed me to scan and post the VCC's quarterly magazine - The Blue Flame Special.

As you can see, I am missing a few copies of The Blue Flame Special Magazines. I would greatly apprciate it if somebody would let me borrow, purchase or trade for the few copies that I am missing. Thanks.

Note - To keep the file size small, and to avoid potential copyright issues, I did not scan the Chevrolet materials (like owner's manuals) included in The Flame Special magazines. only Ed's original content is included in the scans below.
