Exterior Part Pictures

Flippers

These flippers are reproductions. Flippers appeared on 53s and 54s until about 54 #3500. Reproduction flippers differ from originals in several ways - the units are a bit longer in length, and the two hold down screws are longer. These differences are hard to discern, however, in NCRS judging. NCRS judging requires the softtop to be up, which makes it hard for the judges to really focus on the flipper units.

Gas Caps

The gas caps on the top are all originals. The caps on the bottom are all reproductions. On the underside of the original caps (see top middle and top right pics), note how the prongs line up with the ears of the cap. And note the round rivets (top right pic).

The caps on the bottom show common reproductions. On the bottom left and bottom middle pics, the prongs line up with the ears, but the rivets are flattened. On the bottom right pics, the prongs do not line up with the ears, and the rivets are flattened.

Headlight Buckets

Headlight bucket on left is the second design for 53 to early 54 ( made out of pot metal). Early 53's looked the same but were all bronze (which was the first design)

Right side headlight bucket is the third design for mid to late 54's and all 55's - the third design had a metal ring riveted on to aid in deflecting water away from the headlight bulb area.

Hood Emblem

Original on the right, reproduction on the left. Note that the original has more black in the checkered flag. You can also tell original from reproduction horn buttons the same way - original horn emblems have much more black in the checkered flag than do reproduction horn emblems.

Spinner

This is a very good reproduction. A main difference between the original and a reproduction - the CC logo in the picture on the left. Originals do not have the CC logo. An NCRS judge can pick this up with a mirror, or the reflection off the hubcap.

Script

Reproduction Script. Original script has flat tops (as do the better reproductions). Many reproductions do not have flat tops.
