1959 Corvette - YesA59

I purchased this car from the original owner in October 2004. The car had 41k original miles. The original owner lived in Carson City Nevada, and the air in Carson City must be magic. The car was in great shape - no rust. The car had many of its original parts at the time of purchase, including the original block, transmission, radiator, etc.

The original owner did not use the car from 1975 until 2001, when she started to restore the car. She did not get very far - she painted the car, replated the exterior chrome, and a few other things. (The almost unused front brake pad is dated June 1975).

I performed a frame-on restoration of the car, finding almost all of the correctly dated and numbered parts for the car. The car looks very original - the car scored a 97.9% at an NCRS event (Northern California Chapter) excluding my mileage points (I drove the car to the event). Some of the judges at the chapter event were 53 to 55 experts, and were very impressed by the car.

During my restoration of this car, I photographed many other 53 to 55 cars, collected and studied many original early Corvette historical documents, and focused on using original rather than reproduction parts. This car runs great. My mechanic, who owned a 54 Corvette at one time, states that the car runs better than it should. One judge at the NCRS judging event who owns a 54 was surprised at how easily the car starts.

This car is a serious candidate for a Duntov award in the future. The car is not there yet, but it is close. It doesn't need much more work to get to the Duntov level of excellence.

I recently purchased a 1957 Corvette vintage race car - the Bob Dye race car. I currently own three Corvettes - this 54, the 57 race car, and a 59 FI car. I don't have the time to play with 3 C1's, so one of them has to go.
