This
is an early 1954 Corvette with 54,041 original miles. It is the
495th Corvette produced. I have owned the car for a little over a year
and believe i'm the 4th or 5th owner. There were a little over 53,500
miles on the car when I purchased it. I have photos of this car at a
show in 1976 with the same approximate miles on it. It had not been
driven in 29 years.
The car is numbers correct except for the
voltage regulator (recently replaced), the master cylinder which is a
56 or 57 unit and the fuel pump which is a 53 style. The engine is
original to the car, serial no. 0275809F54YG. All gauges work except
for the tach (needs new drive in distributor). The Wonderbar radio also
works.
The car handles and drives very well. The
steering is tight and the brakes work perfectly. The front and rear
main seals have dried out from lack of use and the car does leak some
oil. The Powerglide also leaks a bit, but, I hear they did this on the
showroom floor. The carburators have been rebuilt as has the water
pump. I also had the fuel tank boiled out to remove any deposits. The
exhaust system has been replaced with an aluminized unit from
Corvette Central.
The chassis and undercarriage of the car is
clean and appears to have been restoredat some point in the past.
The interior is very nice and I think original. The top is a
new Al Koch unit with correct dating for a Feb 1954 manufactured car.
The windshield was replaced in Nov. of 1963.
The paint is fresh Nitrocellulose Polo White
Lacquer. There is one old fiberglass repair on the drivers front fender
that was probably done in the 60's.
The chrome is in good condition. The
stainless side trim and seat surrounds were re-polished when the car
was repainted. One of the flippers that cover the hole for the top
irons is broken but I have the piece. The side curtains are in good
shape with minor chrome flaking on one.
The car is not perfect, but shows very well.
