This is a 1954 Corvette owned by a
friend who asked me to list it for him. He has owned the car
since approximitly 1960. It was purchased in Puerto Rico where he
worked for many years. It has been continually in his family
since that time. In the 80's it was sent back to his home in N.
C. where it was maintained by his brother.
As you can see the car is red and very
pretty. It is 98 per cent complete. This car is a
very early one. It was probably made in the first few days of
1954. It is almost completely like a late 53. The engine is
the original 911 block dated in late 53. It has the 241
head. I did not pull the valve cover to look at the date, but I
feel sure it is the one that came with the engine. The
distributor is dated 53. It has the SMOOTH surge tank. The
brake lines run outside the frame, as a 53 does. It has some hand
laid fiber glass. Most of the chrome is presentable but would
need plating for show. Although it can not be verified the car
only has about 39,000 miles on it. It wasn"t driven for so many
years so this seems very reasonable. The bullet air cleaners
have been stripped ready for chrome. I believe the only chrome
missing is a rear verticle. It has the side curtains shown in one
of the pictures. The transmission may be from a passenger car with the
original Corvette components added from the original trans. As
you can see the car has the trans cooler and oil filter. I believe
those were added by the first owner. Car is shown with incorrect
seats. Correct seats and seat covers (new covers) are pictured in
a seperate shot. The seat frame is shown. The new rugs have
not been used, but do show some deterioration of the padding. A
new white top is included. The dash is complete with all guages
except the lighter. Steering wheel is original. Three hole
pulls. Dual hood releases. Almost new wide whites. Ignition
shielding is missing along with the hubcaps. Electrical system has been
converted to 12 volts. I believe he has the original
generator. If he has it it will be included. It needs a neutral
safety switch. The paint is fairly new but does have some
cracks. The car runs, but runs rich. Needs carbs rebuilt.
Sounds great. This is a great car now as a driver and would
make a super restoration with all the matching numbers and the very
early serial number. All the information is true to the best
knowledge of the owner. Please inspect the car or have someone do
it for you. The car is sold AS IS, WHERE IS. Please do not
bid if you do not intend to follow through. Bidders with negative
feedback email before bidding.
The owner has put a reserve on the car
that is very reasonable. The owner would like 10 per cent within
24 hours of the close of the auction, the rest is 7 days.
The buyer is responcible for pick up and delivery. You may see
the car with an appointment. Email me and I will arrange. I
live about 30 miles from the owner. I can answer most questions
about the car. Email me with the questions. If I can not
answer I will speak to the owner. I have known the owner for over
ten years.
